Polka earns honor

Buffalo State's Monica Polka (Lewiston-Porter) was named State University Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) volleyball player of the week after leading the Bengals to three straight 3-0 victories and the championship of their own tournament.

Other SUNYAC weekly honors were a virtual sweep for Western New York athletes. Cortland junior forward Julie Gentner (Williamsville South) was named in field hockey after she scored twice in the undefeated Red Dragons' 6-1 victory at Hartwick. Brockport's Stephanie Rosenhahn (Kenmore East) shared the honors in women's soccer with Kris Tenalis of Geneseo. Cortland's Jesse Mankowski (Clarence), who scored all three goals in a victory over St. John Fisher, was named for men's soccer.
