FREDONIA -- Town of Pomfret Republicans endorsed two incumbents for re-election to town offices during a caucus held Saturday in Village Hall.
Town Clerk Beverly Swyers has served for 13 years. Highway Superintendent James Oakes Jr. has served for 20 years. Both are running unopposed for four-year terms.
The caucus did not field candidates for supervisor or for two Town Board positions.
$5,000 donated to Olean hospital
OLEAN -- Argentieri Brothers Linen Service of Wellsville has donated $5,000 to Olean General Hospital's Vision 2000 Campaign to support a $4 million capital building drive, the hospital recently announced.
The company has provided linen services to the hospital for the past 12 years. The overall $31 million construction and expansion project is expected to be completed in early fall.
Alternative golf tournament planned
ELLICOTTVILLE -- Four local qualifier golf tournaments are planned leading up to the third annual U.X. Open Alternative Golf Tournament at Holiday Valley Oct. 5 and 6.
Traditional rules and etiquette don't apply for the estimated 72 amateur golfers who will participate in the qualifiers and the main event. Transportation is via ski lift, and the game is played on 10 holes spread out over the rough terrain of Holiday Valley's ski slopes.
The tournament occurs during Ellicottville's Fall Festival.

Niagara U sets first fall production
LEWISTON -- Niagara University's first student production of the fall semester, "The Last Night of Ballyhoo," will go on stage Friday through Sunday.
The play, set in 1939, portrays a family that gets pulled apart and mended together with comedy, romance and revelations along the way.
The production opens at 8 p.m. Friday at Niagara University-at-the-Church, 415 Plain St. Other performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
