GILBERT ARDELL LOVE, AUTOWORKER

Gilbert Ardell Love, 58, an autoworker, died Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, after a two-year illness.

Born in Concord, N.C., he attended school there and served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He came to Buffalo in 1971.

He became a laborer at the General Motors axle plant on East Delavan Avenue in 1976 and retired in March.

He was a member of St. John Baptist Church.

Love enjoyed sports, especially football, as well as fishing, gardening, traveling and cooking.

He and Willie R. Coes were married in 1973.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four daughters, Cassandra McKinnon and Danielle, both of Buffalo, Ann Johnson of Asbury Park, N.J., and Genise of Charlotte, N.C.; his mother, Edna of Neptune, N.J.; five brothers, Frank of Orange, N.J., John of Charlotte, N.C., Marshall and Raymond, both of Neptune, and Charles of Providence, R.I.; seven sisters, Virginia Williams, Loretta Patterson and Brenda Robinson, all of Asbury Park, Elaine Williams of Tucson, Ariz., Beverly of Columbus, Ohio, Lena Grace Alston of Neptune and Nora of Buffalo; and 10 grandchildren.

Services will be held at noon Thursday in St. John Baptist Church, 184 Goodell St., after a wake at 11. Burial will be in Forest Lawn.
