Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont has postponed the release of "My Declaration of Independence," in which he writes of his departure from the Republican Party.

"As we come to terms with the immense scope of the terrorist attacks and the search for those responsible, we must come together as one nation at this time," said Jeffords, whose book was scheduled to come out this month and will now be released in November.

According to the Simon & Schuster catalog, Jeffords will explain in his book "why he was convinced that his party had moved away from the center and from his own fundamental beliefs."

Meanwhile, Anne Rice has canceled her tour for "Blood and Gold," her latest "Vampire Chronicle" novel.

"We're putting everything back a couple of weeks. We're going to assess what the mood of the country is," said Laurence J. Kirshbaum, CEO of Time Warner Trade Publishing.
