Amherst took a gamble and it paid off in the form of a 22-21 overtime win over Hamburg on Saturday in Class A South.

Deciding to go for two points after scoring in OT, quarterback Kareem McKelvey scored on an option run from the 3-yard line to win it for the Tigers. On the play before, Mark Ruben caught an 18-yard pass from McKelvey.

Hamburg scored in OT when Adam Grech caught a 13-yard pass Steve Stamer. Linebacker Dan Monahan had 18 tackles for Amherst. Amir Shareef's runs of 8 and 3 yards helped Amherst jump out to a 14-0 lead. Hamburg tied it in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Dave Fregelette.

Many teams in Western New York observed a moment of silence in memory of the victims of Tuesday's attacks.

Iroquois 26, Lake Shore 8: John Jimenez (9 of 16, 185 yards) threw TD passes to Doug Blakowski and Jeremy Burr as the Chiefs forced four turnovers in a win. Eric Mrugacz added a 1-yard run and returned an interception 55 yards to set up another score. Steve Szczepanski completed the scoring with a 4-yard run.

Class AA South

Clarence 21, Frontier 14: Brad Brunetto scored on a 1-yard run with 11 seconds left as the Red Devils survived the Falcons. The game looked like it was headed for OT when Clarence's Frank Fabbiano forced a fumble deep inside Frontier territory with 1:55 left, setting up Brunetto's score. It was Brunetto's third TD of the game. Jerry Smith and Mike Schweizer (13 carries, 170 yards) scored rushing TDs for the Falcons.

Class AA North

Kenmore East 26, Williamsville North 21: Paul DeSantis caught a 5-yard pass from Mark Bly with 16 seconds left as the Bulldogs rallied for 20 points in the fourth quarter to win. Bly intercepted a Hail Mary pass to end the game. He also kept the Bulldogs' final drive alive gaining 8 yards on a fourth-and-two play with 2:30 left. Chris McDuffie rushed for 129 of his 138 yards in the first half and scored both of North's TDs.

Kenmore West 34, Lockport 21: The Blue Devils finished with 355 yards of offense in a win over the Lions. The Blue Devils jumped out to a 21-0 lead on a pair of short runs by Justin Cicatello and a 51-yarder by Ken Campbell. Josh DeNardo had three TD passes.

Class A North

Grand Island 21, Niagara-Wheatfield 14: Steve Krahel scooped up a fumble and ran 70 yards for a TD with 4:02 remaining as the Vikings held on. Mike Feathers had field goals of 34 and 30 yards and Jim Blocho capped a 92-yard day on the ground with a 10-yard scoring run. Josh Perkins scored both TDs for the Falcons.

Wmsv. East 30, Wmsv. South 8: Jeff Wolf rushed for 138 yards, caught five passes for 89 yards and had three TDs for the Flames.

Class B South

Southwestern 46, Fredonia 40 (2OT): Jim Nelson scored both TDs for the Trojans in OT. He finished with four TDs gaining 127 yards on 23 carries. Dustin Bowser added 123 yards on 23 carries and one score. TB Dan Potter scored for Fredonia in OT on a 6-yard run. In the second OT, Fredonia reached the 8-yard line before a sack on third down pushed them back to the 18. On fourth down, Fredonia threw an incomplete pass.

Class C South

Eden 27, Allegany-Limestone 6: Sophomore Keien Williams had a monster game with 266 yards on 19 carries and three TDs for the Raiders. Brent Liebler caught an 8-yard pass from Matt Beckett for Eden's other score..

Salamanca 34, Silver Creek 0: Dustin Ross rushed for three TDs and 106 yards as the Warriors dominated. QB Cameron Haines led all rushers with 158 yards and Derrick Murphy added 149.

Class D East

Franklinville 26, Forestville 6: Chris Waldron scored twice and finished with 118 yards to lead the Panthers. Tim Urey had 13 tackles and Travis Schroeder added 12.

Randolph 19, Frewsburg 7: Casey Brown scored a pair of rushing TDs in the third quarter and Nick Emley (112 yards) and Tony Coronado (86) led the ground attack for the Cardinals. Emley and Brown also hooked up on a 19-yard TD pass.

Pine Valley 42, West Valley 6: The Panthers scored all its points in the first half to overwhelm the Wildcats. Gary Reynolds threw for a score and rushed for another. Vinnie Quinn had a pair of TDs.

The following games were not reported to The News: Victor at Canisius, Portville at Falconer, Clymer at Chaut. Lake and Maple Grove at Panama.
