Buffalo's high-tech business community is planning an information technology convention in October, replacing an event that was canceled by an out-of-town event company.

The Buffalo-Niagara Emerging Technology Expo will be Oct. 10-11 at the Buffalo Convention Center, organizers announced.

The convention center was to have hosted the Information Technology Exposition & Conference on the same dates. That show was called off by organizer Imark Communications in May.

Last year's edition of ITEC drew about 2,000 attendees. "I think we'll be able to get at least that many," said Robert Richardson, a director of InfoTech Niagara.

The industry group is helping organize the replacement event. The locally designed technology show will increase its focus on continuing education and on job opportunities, according to InfoTech Niagara. "ITEC missed an opportunity to focus on the local community," Richardson said.

In addition to displays by technology vendors, the show will feature guest speakers and a seminar series for technology professionals.
