The Village of Hamburg Environmental Committee has given its Environmental Award to Hamburg dentist George Sidford for his work in maintaining the beauty of the village.
As chairman of the Hamburg Civic Beautification Committee, Sidford organizes the hanging flower baskets and barrels of blossoms placed around the village. The committee also has planted hundreds of flowers and bulbs at public spots throughout the village.
Sidford regularly attends Village Board meetings, giving updates on the activities of the committee, also known as the "Beauts." He has been a member of the committee for 12 years.
Private sales in Lancaster need permit
The Lancaster town clerk reminds residents that a permit is required for yard sales, garage sales, estate sales, auctions or other sales occurring on residential property within the town.
Permits must be obtained at least 48 hours before the sale and may be obtained in the town clerk's office, 21 Central Ave.
There is no fee for the permits, Town Clerk Johanna Coleman said. The purpose is to put in place the traffic-control and public-safety measures that police deem necessary.
