Norman R. Konieczny, 78, a retired Buffalo firefighter, died Friday (June 22, 2001) in Orlando, Fla.

A World War II veteran who served in the Marine Corps, the Buffalo native was also active in athletics. He played center field for a farm team of the Brooklyn Dodgers, refereed college basketball and served on the board of directors for Muny baseball in the Buffalo area.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; two daughters, Gail Skeldon of Boca Raton, Fla., and Barbara Weiner of Melbourne, Fla.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be held in Winter Park, Fla.
