Eileen Graetz, 82, of Cheektowaga, a retired Harrison Radiator employee and union secretary, died Friday (June 22, 2001) in Roswell Park Cancer Institute after a long illness.
Born Eileen Palermo in Buffalo, she had lived in Cheektowaga for the past 25 years.
She was a graduate of Hutchinson-Central High School.
She worked for 25 years as an assembler at the Harrison Radiator plant in Buffalo. She was secretary of Local 424, United Auto Workers, for many years.
After retiring in 1982, she remained active with the union. She served as president of the UAW Retirees Association for the past 12 years, relinquishing the post in March because of poor health.
Her love of travel was enhanced as she attended UAW conventions and meetings in many cities.
A talented craftswoman, she sold her creations at many craft shows. She also had been a bowler and gardener.
Her husband, Carl, died in 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Eileen M. of Cheektowaga; a son, Carl Jr. of Buffalo; a brother, Joseph Palermo of Deland, Fla.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Prayers will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Daniel R. Smolarek Funeral Home, 2510 Union Road, Cheektowaga, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Philip the Apostle Church, 950 Losson Road, Cheektowaga. Burial will be private.
