Avis Beckwith, a retired cook, died Friday (June 22, 2001) in St. Mary's Manor in Niagara Falls after a brief illness. She was 83.
Born in the Village of LaSalle, the former Avis Fees moved to Buffalo in 1927 and grew up in the Protestant Home for Unprotected Children. She was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High School. She moved to Niagara Falls in 1937.
A kitchen worker at the former Royal Chef Restaurant in Niagara Falls, Mrs. Beckwith was also a faithful member of LaSalle Church of Christ and volunteered many hours crocheting items to benefit Christian education.
She enjoyed rummage and garage sales and visiting flea markets. She also enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by three sons, George of San Francisco, James of New York City and Donald of Niagara Falls; two daughters, Patricia and Margaret Baker, both of Niagara Falls; two brothers, Gordon Fees and Edward Fees, both of Niagara Falls; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Otto Redanz Funeral Home, Michigan Avenue and 10th Street. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston.
