Assunta "Susie" Baccelli, a native of Italy and a former mothers club and Girl Scout leader, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) in Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was 83.

The former Assunta Roscetti was born in Calascia, Abruzzi, Italy, and came to Niagara Falls with her family at age 12. She was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School.

Mrs. Baccelli worked in the dietary department at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in the 1940s and then worked as a paper handler for International Paper, retiring in 1955.

She was member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and its Mothers Club. She was the former leader for the Madonna High School Mothers Club and the Girl Scouts.

Her favorite pastimes included sewing, needlework, cooking, baking and gardening.

In addition to her husband of 51 years, Anthony J., Mrs. Baccelli is survived by a daughter, Beverly Insinna of Amherst; a sister, Clalia "Gladys" Molinaro of Niagara Falls; a brother, Elvio Roscetti of Niagara Falls; and a granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered today in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church following services in M.J. Colucci & Son Funeral Chapel. Entombment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
