Ronald J. Erickson, assistant manager of the Erie County Fair and a vocalist and guitarist, died June 13, 2001, in his home in Hamburg after a short illness. He was 43.
Born in Orchard Park, he began his music career after graduating from Orchard Park High School in 1975. He performed with the Erickson-Keyser Trio throughout Western New York and Pennsylvania and released a recording of original material and live performances in 1985. A vocalist, he also played guitar and harmonica.
He taught guitar to area students and served as president of R&B Instrumental Rental Service in Hamburg. He was manager for Al Hemer Music Corp.'s guitar department in Orchard Park through the early 1990s.
Erickson had worked for the Erie County Fair since 1996, serving as event and entertainment coordinator until he was promoted to assistant fair manager in 1999. He also served as Spirit of Youth director for four years.
He was an active member of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, where he served in various capacities, including secretary-treasurer and chairman of the tourism and governmental affairs committees.
He is survived by his former wife, the former Barbara Kern; a son, Ryan of Hamburg; his mother, Evelyn of Orchard Park; and a sister, Donna of East Aurora.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday in St. Bernadette's Catholic Church in Orchard Park. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Hamburg.
