Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill has completed the sale of nearly $100 million worth of stock in Alcoa, along with other holdings, hoping to end a controversy that has swirled around him since joining the Bush administration.

Rite Aid Corp. said an unspecified number of institutional investors had boosted their commitment of support for the nation's third biggest drugstore chain by $100 million, reducing the amount the company needs to borrow as part of its $3 billion refinancing plan.

Verizon Communications sold 15 million common shares of Flag Telecom to Tyco International, which owns Graphic Controls in Buffalo and Scott Technologies in Lancaster.
