The Buffalo News article, "Military trauma part of McVeigh's downfall," was nothing more than continued media obsession. Why give front-page voice to someone who believes that Timothy McVeigh deserved to receive military burial honors, or that the Army's failure to see into McVeigh's brain somehow caused or contributed to his becoming a terrorist? There was nothing profound or illuminating about this article. Anyone could guess that everyone who knew McVeigh is questioning whether they could or should have seen or done something to stop him.
Lou Michel has written a book and had more than five years to pick over theories like Allen Smith's. It's time to get this tragedy out of the local news and encourage the community to allow the McVeigh family circle to live without harassment from the local media.
