Jeanette E. Cherry, a retired Lancaster teacher, died Saturday (June 16, 2001) in Kenmore Mercy Hospital, Town of Tonawanda, after a brief illness. She was 75.

A Town of Tonawanda resident, the former Jeanette Mattie was born in Akron and graduated from Akron Central School. She had a master's degree in education from Buffalo State College.

Mrs. Cherry taught kindergarten in Lancaster for 32 years, retiring in 1981.

She enjoyed playing the piano, gardening and traveling.

Her husband, Nelson G., died in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia A. Montaldi of Buffalo and Susan Marie DelMonte of Grand Island, and three sisters, Frances Cieslinski of Williamsville, Mary Palisano of the Town of Tonawanda and Annette Eckert of Marcy.

Prayers were said today in Amigone Funeral Home, Town of Tonawanda. A Mass of Christian Burial followed in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Town of Tonawanda. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cheektowaga.
