Kudos to the Colorado Avalanche on winning the Stanley Cup and especially to the best goaltender in the world -- Patrick Roy! Patrick proved to the hockey world that he is no Dominik Hasek -- he is supremely better! This year, Patrick broke Terry Sawchuk's record for all-time wins by a goalie. He has won the Vezina Trophy three times, the William Jennings Trophy four times and numerous other accolades. However, more importantly, he has now won four Stanley Cups and is the only hockey player in history to ever win three Conn Smythe Trophies as a playoff MVP. While Hasek may be one of the best regular-season goaltenders ever, until he wins even one Cup, he is not in the same league as Patrick!
Patrick also happens to own the record for playoff wins and shutouts by a goaltender. He took two average Montreal teams (not unlike recent Sabre teams) and made them champions. This year he outplayed another threat to his throne -- Martin Brodeur. Hasek and Brodeur should look at the tape of Game Six in the finals to see what heart and determination a goaltender should have in willing his team to victory!
Thank you Patrick for another great run to the Stanley Cup and for a lifetime of memories! Long live the King! Gary, where is the phone call now?
