A recent letter was critical of the new roller hockey rink installed at Stachowski Park. I agree that the original fences were too low and pucks regularly went over them. Residents contacted Councilman Richard Fontana about the problem and he immediately came over to see what could be done.
Within one week, he had secured the funds necessary to install a 12-foot high backstop on both ends of the roller hockey rink. After securing the funds, the contractor got tied up with a previous job and was delayed at installing the higher backstops.
Fontana should be commended for his actions in the installation of youth sports activities in the parks. Both children and adults love the new rink. Just like with any project, there are small adjustments that need to be made.
