John G. Gunsher of Springville, a retired National Fuel employee, died Feb. 17, 2001, in Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, Springville, after a lengthy battle with emphysema. He was 76.
He was a former Republican Committee member in the Town of Concord and a founding member of the Erie County Coon Club.
Gunsher served during World War II on Saipan in the Pacific. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was the widower of Jane M. Shields Gunsher.
Survivors include his wife, the former Dolores Emer; two daughters, Patricia Sanderson of Hamburg and Penny Sprague of Warren, Ariz.; four sons, Michael of Reno, Nev., Charles of Jamestown, Timothy of Dahlgren, Va., and David of Springville; two stepsons, Andrew Hirsch of Bernhards Bay and David Hirsch of Chittenango; two stepdaughters, Karen Stanley of Park City, Utah, and Nancy Sutter of Stamford, Conn.; a brother, George of the Town of Tonawanda; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. March 10 in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 591 E. Main St., Springville.
