The Public Employees Federation (PEF) takes strenuous exception to aspects of the Jan. 14 News article and Jan. 22 editorial that expressed dissatisfaction with the state Department of Labor's enforcement of the Public Work Law. It is not our intention to comment on the merits of the specific case. However, the PEF is appalled by the public denigration of our member Ronald Kinn that is explicit in the article and implicit in the editorial.
The News should understand that Kinn implements Department of Labor policy. He does not establish it. By all accounts, Kinn is highly regarded by Department of Labor management and by his colleagues. In fact, management recently asserted to the PEF that Kinn did a first-class job in the investigation pertaining to the case.
The unwarranted demeaning of Kinn has had a demoralizing impact on all civil servants who perform their duties conscientiously. It contravenes the public interest when public servants are wrongfully demeaned for doing their job.
