In a recent letter, a Lackawanna stamp collector expressed his disappointment that New York City was chosen as the First Day of Issue site for the Pan-American commemorative stamps. As postmaster of Buffalo, I am pleased to report that the U.S. Postal Service approved our request to include Buffalo as a co-First Day of Issue site.
For the past few weeks, members of my staff have been working behind the scenes with representatives from the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, the Pan-American Exposition Centennial Committee, the Buffalo Stamp Club and other interested parties planning a stamp-unveiling ceremony and temporary philatelic station here in Buffalo on March 29.
We appreciate the importance and significance of being a co-First Day of Issue site, and we are proud that these stamps will call attention to the past and future glory of our beloved community.
