The newest version of United Parcel Service's shipping software inadvertently reconfigures some Internet browsers and automatically makes the shipping giant's main Web site the users' home page.
About 200,000 customers received the updated WorldShip software, which featured the new shipping rates that went into effect Feb. 7, UPS spokesman Steve Holmes said Thursday.
UPS will ship a fixed version of the software within the next few weeks, Holmes said. In the meantime, UPS is asking customers who have experienced problems to call the company for technical help.
Holmes said the problem did not affect every customer and occurred most often when WorldShip interfaced with Internet browsers that didn't have Microsoft's newest version of its browser, Explorer 5.5.
