MAYVILLE -- Two Jamestown police officers who put their lives on the line as undercover drug agents received two more honors Thursday.
Sgt. R. Scott DePietro and Detective David P. Mitchell were given "outstanding performance in the line of duty" commendations by judges in the Eighth Judicial District.
The commendations were presented by State Supreme Court Justice Joseph Gerace during a ceremony at the Chautauqua County Courthouse.
Mitchell was shot and critically wounded by a drug informant. The informant was wounded in an exchange of gunfire with DePietro, who administered first aid to Mitchell before he was taken to the hospital.
Mitchell couldn't attend the ceremony because he was having surgery. Deputy Jamestown Police Chief Lawrence Wallace accepted Mitchell's commendation.
Both men were also presented Governor's Awards for Valor by Police Chief William MacLaughlin before a large crowd of fellow officers, friends and family members.
