Good for 'Variety Rocks'
The annual "Variety Rocks" benefit concert for the Children's Hospital of Buffalo is getting a great push this year. The addition of the Canadian rock group the Matthew Good Band, making its first Buffalo appearance in nearly three years, pushed tickets sales past capacity at the event's original venue. "Variety Rocks" will now be held at 7 p.m. March 2 in the Sideshow Music Hall in Lackawanna, doubling the previous capacity. Tickets are $6 in advance (Ticketmaster, Home of the Hits, New World Record, Terrapin Station, Record Theatre) and $10 at the door.
Fera finishing CD
The Bob Fera Band is taking a short break from the club circuit after this weekend to finish working on a new CD. Fera says it will have a more alternative sound with heavier guitars and a Brit-pop feel, thanks in part to the contemporary edge added by new drummer Dan Scheider (The Incredible Venus Flytrap). BFB performs two sets starting at 10:30 p.m. Saturday in the Pearl Street Grill, 76 Pearl St. Admission is $5.
Heat is rising
Flashy stage garb and off-the-wall humor is making the dance party band The Heat one of the area's hottest cover bands. Featuring music veterans Carl Motyka on vocals, lead guitarist Roger Lavocat, bassist Craig Maddigan and drummer Bob Accurso, the band is planning on releasing a CD of original tunes. Catch them at 11 p.m. today in Big Shotz, 45 West Chippewa St.
25 years together
There aren't many things that last for 25 years anymore, but you can count the musical collaboration between Tom Fenton and Jim Iarocci as one of them. Their musical friends will gather tonight during the Fibs' monthly happy hour in Nietzsche's and pay tribute to the duo by performing their songs. Among those paying homage are members of the Steam Donkeys, Dave Meinzer, Cathy Carfagna, Mike Meldrum and Tom Hajduk. The show starts about 6:30 p.m. in Nietzsche's, 248 Allen St. Send your information to: email@example.com.
