Sushi workshop: The Men's Group of Temple Beth Am will sponsor a sushi workshop and silent auction fund-raiser; 7 p.m., temple social hall, 4660 Sheridan Drive.

The workshop, conducted by four professional sushi chefs, will deal with planning and preparing a sushi dinner and will include a dinner. Tickets are $30 per person. Reservations are required by calling the temple at 633-8877.


Festival: The International Hands Across the Sea Festival, a global education program for children; 2 to 3:30 p.m., Buffalo & Erie County Central Library, Lafayette Square. The event is sponsored by Buffalo-Niagara WorldConnect in cooperation with Citigroup Foundation. It is intended for children 5 to 12. For details and reservations, call Amy J. Moore at 852-6406.

Benefit: The Dooleys, a local folk-rock-jazz group, will perform; 7 p.m., St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1520 E. Delavan Ave. Proceeds from the concert will go to the church's Jubilee Elevator Fund, an $84,000 effort to make parish facilities accessible to people with physical disabilities. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.

Along with the music, Louisiana-style Cajun food items will be available. They will be prepared by the pastor, the Rev. Paul D. Seil, who spent time in a New Orleans parish.

Gardening program: The Society for Organic Horticulture will host an organic gardening program; 2 p.m., Museum of Science, 1020 Humboldt Parkway. Participants must pay a general admission to the museum, but there is no additional charge to attend the program.

Niagara Falls

Dog show and competition: More than 2,000 dogs and their owners and handlers will converge on the Niagara Falls Convention and Civic Center for the Rainbow Classic Dog Show and Obedience Trials.

The Olean, Wyoming Valley and Niagara Falls kennel clubs will serve as hosts for the event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

About 142 breeds will be exhibited in both conformation and obedience competition. More than 50 junior handlers will compete for handling expertise in junior showmanship.

North Tonawanda

Egg waxing: Learn the wax resist method of decorating Ukrainian Pysanky (Easter eggs); 10 a.m. to noon, YWCA of the Tonawandas, 49 Tremont St. Cost is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. For information or registration, phone 692-5580.

Art exhibit: "Studio 2001" features fine art created by emerging and established artists working in the Partners in Art Studio; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 83 Webster St.

West Seneca

Dance: The sixth annual Dance for Lupus will be held; 7 p.m. to 1 a.m., Ironworkers Local Hall, 1986 Orchard Park Road.

Tickets, at the door, are $15 for adults and $5 for children. Proceeds will be used to promote research and provide emotional support and services for lupus patients and their families.
