Veronica A. Lazarus, 90, who taught at St. Margaret's School in North Buffalo and St. John the Baptist School in the Riverside-Black Rock area, died Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2001) in Sheridan Manor Nursing Home.
Born Veronica Flood in Buffalo, she lived in Riverside all her life and attended what is now Buffalo State College. She taught in schools in the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, on and off, from the 1920s to the mid-1970s.
Mrs. Lazarus was the first lay teacher at St. John the Baptist School, where she met her husband, Norbert. He died in 1984.
She was an officer in the Altar and Rosary Society and Mothers Guild of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. She was presented the Pentecostal Award for her service to the parish. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity of Buffalo.
In retirement, she enjoyed playing cards, traveling and entertaining.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Wachowiak of Depew; a sister, Rita Bennings of Buffalo; and two grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. John the Baptist Church, 60 Hertel Ave. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Town of Tonawanda.
