Legislature Chairman Charles M. Swanick claims County Executive Joel A. Giambra is "meddling in their party, ignoring the system of checks and balances and embarking on a power trip of dictatorial proportions."
Let me remind Swanick what happened during his tenure and during the Gorski years: Erie County missed the biggest economic boom in history, taxes became stifling, property values plummeted, a massive departure of our youth occurred, urban sprawl spread, service fees soared and downtown Buffalo became a ghost town.
For the first time in a very long time, someone actually has a vision and a master plan for this area. I say let Giambra develop a majority of legislators who are interested in taking Erie County in the direction he is trying to take it and implement his ideas. Swanick should realize that if he and his party had a vision and a plan 10 years ago, we would not be having this argument.
