Wilson Greatbatch, a local electrical engineer who conceived the idea for pacemakers, will sign copies of his book, "The Making of the Pacemaker: Celebrating a Lifesaving Invention," from 2 to 4 p.m. today in Media Play, 6743 Transit Road, Williamsville.

Signings of "Endorsed by Jack Chapeau," a book of short fiction by local author Theodore Pelton, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Borders Books and Music, 2015 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga.

Readings of works by William Wells Brown will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Friday in the Central Library at Lafayette Square. Among those participating will be local poet/actor N'Tare Ali Gault and writer Gary Earl Ross, as well as various local scholars.
