Jayne VanDeusen Severson, 84, of Amherst, an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a former teacher, died Saturday (Feb. 17, 2001) in Hospice Buffalo after a lengthy illness.

Born in Buffalo, she attended Buffalo Seminary and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1934. She graduated from Cortland Normal Teachers College with a degree in elementary education in 1937.

She taught kindergarten at Cattaraugus Thomas Indian School for four years prior to her marriage to Dr. C. Henry in 1941. They were married for 53 years, until his death in June 1998.

Mrs. Severson, who spent most of her married life as a resident of the Town of Tonawanda, enjoyed making seasonal items sold at church linen sales. She also was active in the Buffalo Seminary Alumni Association. She was a member of the Buffalo Saturn Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Harwood of Kenmore; two sons, S. Roger of Orchard Park and Douglas E. of Hampton, Va.; a brother, George S. VanDeusen of Chattanooga, Tenn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 724 Delaware Ave.
