The refusal of the Williamsville School Board to pull the controversial book "Shade's Children" seems to be inconsistent with the school's own policies. If a student was to write such material for a paper, the school would have a zero-tolerance policy for the language/content and the parents would be held accountable for the student's action. In fact, the student would probably have to go to counseling with the school psychologist.
Where is the Transit Middle School principal in this matter? Has she even read this book? Wouldn't it be an interesting assignment for these middle school children to read this material and supply a book report to the School Board to review? Once again, students and parents are being ignored by the school district. Hopefully, some common sense will prevail and the book will be pulled off the shelves so students ages 9 to 13 will not be subjected to this material.
