Read-Along Night, Feb. 22 at Benjamin Franklin School in the Town of Tonawanda, will kick off a family reading schedule lasting several weeks.
Parents as Reading Partners (PARP), a home reading program of the PTA, will hold the event at 6:30 p.m. in the school, 500 Parkhurst Blvd. The school won the 1999 New York State PARP Award for the program.
Parents and teachers will read their favorite stories to pupils and their families. Guest speaker will be Leah Leatherbarrow of the Buffalo Museum of Science.
Coming events include a bookmark contest, hallway decorations by classrooms, reading contracts signed by students and their adult reading partners, Turn Off TV Night, and a book fair April 4 to 6. Author Jack Gantos will visit the school April 4.
Fitness classes offered in Tonawanda
The Town of Tonawanda Aquatic and Fitness Center is holding an open registration for its spring classes.
The center is offering swimming lessons for all ages and abilities, kick-boxing, step aerobics and aquatic classes.
