Winifred W. "Winnie" King, 58, who owned and operated King's Hardware in Delevan with her husband, Dennis M., died Saturday (Feb. 10, 2001) in her Delevan home after a lengthy illness.
The former Winifred Whatman was a graduate of Oneonta State College and received her master's degree in library science from Geneseo State College.
Before moving to Delevan in 1970 after her marriage, she taught first grade and was a librarian at Lansing Elementary School.
Mrs. King was the Town of Yorkshire deputy historian, held several offices in organizations associated with Delevan Baptist Church, was past president of the Delevan-Yorkshire Public Library Board and an assistant librarian, co-founder of the Beginning After Loss Support Group and a member of the Heart in Hand Quilt Club.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a son, Kollin, and a daughter, Karolin; her parents, Donald and Lucille Whatman of Groton; and two brothers, Richard and Paul Whatman, both of Groton.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Delevan Baptist Church, 18 Church St. Burial will be in Delevan Cemetery.
