A memorial service for William J. Gunnell III, a retired executive of the Peter Cooper Corp. in Gowanda, was held Jan. 20 in Stuart, Fla.

Gunnell, 85, died Jan. 15, 2001, in his Stuart home. The Buffalo native had moved to Florida from Hamburg 23 years ago.

For 30 years, he was executive vice president of Peter Corp., which operated what was believed to be the world's largest animal-glue factory from 1906 to 1972. Gunnell was a member of the Miles Grant Country Club, Peace Presbyterian Church and Rotary Club, all of Stuart.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Beatrice B.; a son, William IV of West Hollywood, Calif.; a daughter, Suzanne E. Edlund of Austin, Texas; a brother, Richard of Green Valley, Ariz.; a sister, Barbara Littleton of Hammondsport; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
