Clarence has sunk the unsinkable.

The Red Devils boys swimming team won the final event -- the 400-yard freestyle relay -- to hand Orchard Park its first ECIC I loss in a decade, 52-50, Friday night.

The clash of undefeated teams was tied at 46-46 entering the 400 free relay. A Clarence relay that hadn't gone any faster than 3:29.34 this year finished in 3:17.94 with freshman Steve Inacker touching the wall first. The other three relay swimmers -- Duncan Carranza, Dan Glauber and Matt Guay -- all swam the best splits of their careers.

"This is something, huh?" said Clarence coach Eric McClaren, whose team is now 13-0, 11-0. "They were sky-high (for the meet) but we kept it under control."

Joe Ordalizak (50 and 100 meters) and Matt Szrama (200 IM, 200 fly) were double winners for OP (11-1-1, 10-1), which entered the meet ranked third in the state.
