RYDER SYSTEM TO CUT 700 JOBS

Ryder System expects to cut up to 700 jobs this year, from vice presidents on down at the logistics and truck-leasing services company.

Some people already have left the corporate office in suburban Miami, where up to 125 of 1,110 employees will be laid off.

The total job cuts represent about 2 percent of Ryder's worldwide work force of 30,000. Severance pay is expected to cost $25 million to $30 million in pretax earnings this year.
