FIRE AT HOUSE IN ROYALTON CAUSES $80,000 IN DAMAGE

ROYALTON -- Authorities are investigating a fire that caused an estimated $80,000 in damage late Wednesday to a one-story house at 6694 Riddle Road, Rapids Fire Chief Ronald Wills said.

Two cocker spaniels and a pet bird died in the fire. An albino rabbit that survived was found in the basement, Wills said.

Rapids Firefighter Brian Wick suffered a shoulder injury when he tripped while hooking a hose line to a hydrant. He was released after being treated in Lockport Memorial Hospital, Wills said.

The fire broke out about 10:42 p.m. in the living room of Tracy Fry's home. About 60 volunteer firefighters from the Rapids, South Lockport and Wolcottsville fire companies responded.

The Niagara County Cause and Origin Team is investigating.

Fry, who was not home at the time of the fire, is staying with relatives. The house is owned by Charles Kinney of Riddle Road, Wills said.
