Kevin Pope scored 11 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter to help St. Joe's stave off Iroquois, 51-48, in a non-league game Wednesday night.
The Marauders (13-5), No. 6 in The News' large-school poll, trailed by two early in the fourth quarter before Pope helped them spurt to a six-point advantage with about 1:30 remaining.
Chris Heller added 14 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots for St. Joe's, Pope had 10 rebounds and Nick Massaro had 10 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Iroquois (12-4) was led by Nick Weatherbee with 13 points and Jon Jarnot with 10 rebounds.
In non-league action elsewhere, Mike Ulasewicz had 19 points and Rick Slevinski had 18 points and 13 rebounds to lead Olean (10-8) to an 88-65 win over Pioneer. Shinya Tajima led the Panthers with 14 points. . . . Jeff McMahon had 28 points as Portville (14-4) topped Cuba- Rushford of Section V, 67-59.
