Depew upset Iroquois, 54-52, Saturday night on Mark Lease's layup at the buzzer and ended the visiting Chiefs' 43-game unbeaten streak in ECIC Division III basketball action.
The Wildcats rallied in the second half after trailing, 27-18, at halftime. Depew outscored first-place Iroquois, 36-25, in the second half, 15-10 in the fourth quarter.
The game was tied at 52-52 with 1.7 seconds left when Depew took the ball out under its own basket and found Lease open for the game-winner.
The Iroquois streak began in the 1997-98 season. The Chiefs went 11-1 that year then were unbeaten the next two seasons and won the first eight in the current campaign.
Depew's Eric Ellis and Lease led the scoring with 16 points each. Jack Brunetto added 10.
Nick Weatherbee had 12 points and John Jimenez 11 for Iroquois.
Elsewhere in ECIC III, Steve Masich dominated with 21 points and 16 rebounds as Tonawanda defeated Cheektowaga, 69-56. Nick Lorich had 16 for the winners. Derrick Warburton had 17 for Cheektowaga.
ECIC II: Jeremy Konst hit seven three-pointers for 21 points, equaling twin brother Justin's scoring output as No. 5 small school Williamsville East (14-3, 9-0) set school records for points and three-pointers (13) Saturday in a 96-57 win at West Seneca East.
Kevin Roche added 12 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks while Jeremy Konst had 10 assists and Justin Konst had five assists and six steals. The Flames' previous team records were 95 points and 10 three-pointers.
Chris Kulinski led the Trojans with 17 points.
Reggie Burgin (22) and Bryan Boswell (19) set the scoring pace for Sweet Home in a 66-44 romp over Williamsville South. Herb Courtney and Charlie Burwick each scored 11 for the Billies.
ECIC I: Steve Fassel scored 20 as Clarence edged Lancaster, 52-50. Eric Fenar's 15 points paced the losing Redskins.
Orchard Park's Jim Dominkiewicz went over the 1,000 point mark with a 30-point performance in the Quakers' 75-48 victory over Williamsville North. Dan Gronkowski had 18 for the losing Spartans. OP's Sean O'Brien had 10 rebounds, 11 assists and 15 points.
ECIC IV: Lackawanna ran its division record to 9-1 with a 59-59 triumph over JFK. Richard Abrams had 27 and Ray Braxton 13 for the Steelers. Bill Battaglia's 20 led the Bears.
Division leader East Aurora (10-0) broke to a 26-7 lead on the way to a 53-42 win over Holland. David Mallon had 19 points for the Blue Devils. Graham Landis (15) and Nick Wahl (14) led Holland.
Alden won its first division game, defeating Cleveland Hill, 72-67 as Joe Blachowicz led the way with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Antwon Burton had 20 points for Cleve Hill.
Non-league: Christine Roth had 18 points and six assists and Maggie Boryszak and Jill Ratchuk scored 15 each as Mount Mercy defeated Rochester Mercy, 71-43.
