Canada, like Buffalo, loves the Barenaked Ladies. The Juno Awards, Canada's version of the Grammys, this week honored the Ladies with five nominations - the most for any act. The band's single, "Pinch Me," earned a Juno nomination for single of the year and it is also up for a Grammy Award later this month.

What makes the Barenaked Ladies so successful? The band's combination of humor, musicianship, wildy entertaining and energetic concert shows and an enticing pop sound. Singer Steven Page and guitarist Ed Robertson, with their stage presence and songwriting ability, are the core of the Barenaked Ladies. They get help from Jim Creegan on bass, Tyler Stewart on drums and Kevin Hearn on keyboards.

Buffalo, one of the first American cities to support the Ladies, has played a major role in the Toronto band's success. That's why the Barenaked Ladies play here so often. The band performed in the HSBC Arena in December and is back for a rare, non-arena show in Shea's, sponsored by WKSE-FM radio.
