Former major leaguer Dave Hollins will be one of the instructors for the Buffalo Bisons Hitting Academy, which begins Feb. 10. Hollins will serve as instructor for Saturday classes on Feb. 10 and 17. That session will continue Feb. 25 and March 3. Other sessions of the camp run Saturdays from March 10 to 31 and Sundays from March 11 to April 1. Cost of registration for each four-week session is $60. Call 846-2037.

Pat LaFontaine, the former Buffalo Sabres captain, will sign copies of his new book, "Companions in Courage: Triumphant Tales of Heroic Athletes," at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Barnes & Noble, 1565 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.

The Buffalo Bombshells is the name of the cheerleading squad for the Buffalo Destroyers of the Arena Football League. The Bombshells will hold tryouts Sunday morning at Fontana's Banquet Center, 2440 Clinton St., West Seneca. Registration begins at 9 a.m., tryouts at 10.

COLLEGE HOCKEY: The L.D. Bell-Niagara Frontier Chapter 204 of the Air Force Association invites the public to join them at a reception Feb. 23 at the Buffalo Niagara Marriott, 1340 Millersport Highway, Amherst, following the Air Force Academy's hockey game at Niagara. POOL: The second Mike "Ziggy" Tomczak Memorial Pool Tournament to benefit the Depew-Lancaster Boys and Girls Club begins at noon Saturday at Lancaster Moose Lodge 1605, 5437 Broadway in Lancaster. Entry is $25, or $15 for seniors, women and juniors (amateurs only).

SOCCER: The Niagara Police Athletic League Soccer Club will host a free Buffalo Blizzard clinic on Feb. 8, 7-9 p.m., at Niagara Falls High School. Prior registration is not required. Participants are required to bring a soccer ball and shin guards. . . . The Niagara PAL club needs players for the following travel teams: under-10 boys and girls, under-12 boys, under-14 boys and girls, under-16 boys and girls and under-19 boys and girls. Call 283-7715. . . . The Niagara PAL club will host a four-on-four tournament at Hyde Park on June 2 and 3 for male and female players ages 5 through adult. Cost is $30 to $40 per team.
