TX RX Systems in Angola has won a contract worth more than $15 million to upgrade the communications equipment in New York City's subway system.
TX RX will supply antennas and signal boosters that will connect street-level radio communications to underground subway stations and connecting tunnels. That will allow police officers and firefighters to use their radios when they are in the subway tunnels, just as transit officers already can do, said Blair Webster, project manager.
The contract was awarded by the prime contractor handling the work for the New York City Transit Authority.
TX RX is a unit of Cleveland-based Bird Technologies Group. The company employs about 140 people and expects to add about 20 people once full production on the project gets under way.
