Norbert J. Gurbacki, 64, a retired credit manager, died unexpectedly Wednesday (Sept. 27, 2000) in St. Joseph Hospital, Cheektowaga.
A lifelong resident of Sloan, he was a graduate of Sloan High School and Buffalo State College. He served in the Army Reserve.
He taught history, algebra and drama at Sloan High School for 10 years before beginning his career in credit management. He was a credit manager at Liberty Bank and Wehle Electric Co. before joining TAM Ceramics in Niagara Falls in 1978. He retired in 1998.
He was a member of the Creditmen's Association, the Zebra Club and the Cheektowaga Community Chorus.
He was a golfer and an advocate for and lover of animals.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, the former Elaine Rothberger; three daughters, Kim Cygan of Maryland, Krista Casebolt of Virginia and Kelly Madera of Florida; a sister, Martha Szatkowski of Sloan; and six grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Crocker and Franklin streets, Sloan, after prayers at 9:30 in Daniel R. Smolarek Funeral Home, 2047 Broadway, Sloan. Burial will be private.
