Mary E. Walls, 92, who served as a mother to dozens of children though she had none of her own, died Monday (Sept. 25, 2000) in St. Luke's Nursing Home after a long illness.
Born Mary E. McKinis in Hailhorst, Miss., one of 11 children, she married Booker T. Walls in the late 1920s and came to Buffalo in the early 1940s. Her husband died in the late 1970s.
She worked for Curtiss-Wright Corp. during World War II and for many years served as a foster mother caring for troubled teenage girls. She also worked as a child care provider and helped raise the children of her sisters and cousins.
She was an active member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Antioch Baptist Church, 1327 Fillmore Ave. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ebenezer.
