The Buffalo Chariots, a wheelchair basketball team sponsored by the Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association, recently opened their 2000-2001 home season with two losses to the visiting Bay City Lighting. The next games will be a Nov. 18 doubleheader at 4:30 p.m. against the Rochester Silver Wheels at the Erie Community College South Campus.

The season -- against seven other Keystone Conference teams from New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio -- runs until the middle of February. Admission is free. For details call Kevin Forczek at 551-4532.

SOCCER: The Ken-Ton Soccer Association will hold tryouts for travel teams on Saturday at Green Acres Elementary School, 205 Yorkshire Road, Town of Tonawanda. Boys should report at 10 a.m., girls at 1 p.m. Candidates must been born before Aug. 1, 1992. . . . The Town of Boston has extended its Sunday afternoon (4:30 to 6 p.m.) over-20 program from Oct. 1 through Nov. 5. The Amherst Lightning will hold travel teams tryouts Saturday at the North Amherst Recreation Center (corner Millersport and New Road).
