The Amherst Audubon Library, 350 John James Audubon Parkway, has announced several events in October. To register, call 689-4922.

On the schedule are:

Beginning knitting for children at least 8 years old, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 3 to Oct. 24.

Beginning-intermediate knitting for adults, 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays from Oct. 3 to Oct. 24.

English conservation classes for those who speak a foreign language, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Oct. 4 to Nov. 15.

Magic of Reading program for children in second and third grades who are not avid readers, 4 to 5 p.m. Thursdays from Oct. 5 to Oct. 26.

Book discussion group for students in fourth through seventh grades about "Moorchild" by Eloise McGraw, 11 a.m. Oct. 14.

Book discussion group for people at least 13 years old about "Hard Love" by Ellen Wittlinger, 6 to 7 p.m. Nov. 6.

Car seat safety check offered Saturday

The Babies "R" Us store at 1569 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst, will observe Baby Safety Month by offering a free safety check of child car seats Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Inspectors from Safe Kids Coalition will examine seats for proper installation, age and size capacity, and to see whether they have been damaged or recalled.
