* The Gowanda Country Club fivesome of Sue Bastedo, Cindy Burdick, Gail Maloney, Joanne Poppenberg and playing pro Paul Agone carded a net 62 in the second round of the 2000 Women's Oldsmobile Scramble National finals at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Gowanda has a two-day total of 124 and is tied for 13th going into today's third round. The 41 teams will be cut to the top eight after today's round. Great Hills GC of Austin, Texas leads the tournament after shooting a 15-under 57.
* Liz Johnson of Niagara Falls advanced from seventh to fifth in the last round of match play before losing a three-player shootout in the finals of the PWBA's Brunswick Women's World Open in Newnan, Ga.
In the shootout, Marianne DiRupo bowled 201 to reach the title game, while Johnson had 188 and Carolyn Dorin-Ballard had 170. Leading qualifier Cara Honeychurch defeated DiRupo for the championship, 179-160,

In women's volleyball, Lisa Herrscher (Clarence) had 19 assists and seven digs for Buffalo State in a 15-9, 15-4, 16-14 loss to St. John Fisher.
In women's tennis, Nicole Becker (Kenmore East) and Amanda Coates (Kenmore East) won their singles and doubles matches for Buffalo State in an 8-1 win over Fredonia.
