Lewiston will lease 47 acres of Plateau
The New York Power Authority agreed Tuesday to lease 47 acres of land to the Village of Lewiston for a recreational and environmental complex.
The Power Authority acquired the land during construction of the hydroelectric plant in Lewiston in 1958.
Commonly referred to as the Plateau, the land was part of 193 acres the authority leased to the state for Artpark. The 47 acres aren't being used, and the village wants to build a complex that will include five athletic fields and a wildlife-management area.
The $700,000 complex will be financed half by the village and half by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
