Authorities were continuing their investigation into the cause of a collision on a rural state highway that left three women dead.

The victims, all from Ithaca, were identified Monday as Yelena P. Andreyeva, 63; Varvara Zinchenko, 74; and Klavdiya P. Stepanok, 71. All three were pronounced dead at the scene, the Tioga County Sheriff's Department reported.

The crash occurred just after 1 p.m. Sunday on a recently resurfaced section of Route 79 near the western edge of the hamlet of Richford, which is 30 miles northwest of Binghamton in Tioga County. Authorities said the newly paved roadway was slightly damp at the time of the crash.

Deputies said Kristin A. Guild, 30, of Glens Falls was traveling alone when her car crossed the center line and collided with a car driven by Nikolay Andreyeva, 60, Yelena Andreyeva's husband.

Guild suffered minor injuries. Andreyeva was flown to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa., where he was listed in good condition Monday.
