J.E. "Ted" Stibbards, 63, of Corpus Christi, Texas, president of Children's Hospital of Buffalo from 1984 to 1990, died unexpectedly Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) in his home.
Born in Edmonton, Alberta, he earned his undergraduate degree at McMaster University and received his doctorate in hospital administration from Walden University in Minneapolis.
He was administrator of children's hospitals in Cincinnati, Birmingham, Ala., and Toronto before coming to Buffalo. Later he headed children's hospitals in Los Angeles and Corpus Christi. He served as a consultant since retiring in December 1998.
He was a past member of the executive committee and chairman of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions and was president of the Children's Hospital Association of Texas.
Stibbards was a former member of the board of directors of Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi and the Texas Association of Public and Nonprofit Hospitals.
Among his many other affiliations, he was a former member of the Health Systems Agency of Western New York and the Rotary Club of Buffalo.
Stibbards had lived in Eggertsville.
He and Gwen Hicks were married in 1958.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, David of Boulder, Colo.; a daughter, Sandra Stibbards-Ocampo of Newburgh; a brother, Lawrence of Livingston Manor; a sister, Lyn Lewis of Uxbridge, Ont.; and three grandchil-dren.
Services were held today in Seaside Funeral Home Chapel, Corpus Christi.
