Margaret Oliphant, 98, a craftswoman who enjoyed sewing and making afghans, died Friday (Sept. 22, 2000) in North Gate Manor Nursing Home, Wheatfield, after a lengthy illness.
The former Margaret Heywang was born in Niagara Falls and moved to Youngstown 23 years ago from Ransomville. She moved to North Gate Manor in April 1994.
A graduate of Niagara Falls High School, she worked as a clerk at the former Niagara Hudson Electric Co., Niagara Falls, in the early 1920s. She also worked as a clerk for the former Niagara Dairy, Niagara Falls, from 1920 to 1923.
Mrs. Oliphant was a member of Youngstown Senior Citizens, Ransomville Retirees and Ransomville Mothers Club. In addition, she was a member of Lewiston Senior Citizens and attended Ransomville United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Ennis, died in 1969.
Survivors include two sons, Charles of Lewiston and James of Wilson; four daughters, Betty Goodman of Newfane, Dorothy Seefeldt of Ransomville, Helen Denny of Sanborn and Marjorie Eodice; 21 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Hardison Funeral Home, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville. Burial will be in North Ridge Cemetery, Cambria.
