It doesn't take long to find Iroquois in the Division III standings. It's still on top.
John Jimenez completed 15 of 20 passes for three scores, including two connections of over 30 yards to Nick Weatherbee, as Iroquois beat West Seneca East, 28-14. The Chiefs and Pioneer are both 4-0 overall and undefeated in the league. They will tangle at Pioneer at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Pioneer 32, Wmsv. South 6: Dennis Wolfer had three rushing TDs, Aaron Meyers added two and Scott Kinmartin had 101 yards for the Panthers. Rick Gilbert had eight tackles as Pioneer jumped out to a 26-0 lead at halftime.
Division I North
Ken. West 42, Niagara Falls 14: Justin Cicatello's five-touchdown day helped the Blue Devils keep rolling. Kenmore West is atop the division at 4-0 after Cicatello (11 for 15, 162 yards) threw for four touchdowns and ran for another. It is the first time Kenmore West has been 4-0 since 1986.
Scott Haynes had a touchdown via the air and the ground, running for 87 yards on 22 carries and catching four passes for 60 yards. Niagara Falls (1-3, 0-2) scored on its first play when Rick Primerano ran 91 yards, but West forced six turnovers the rest of the way.
Division I South
Hamburg 20, Orchard Park 13: A 25-yard Orchard Park pass fell incomplete in the end zone on the last play of the game as the Bulldogs won for the first time. Chris Piazza finished with 96 yards on 16 tries and had TDs of 4 and 31 yards. QB Steve Stamer added a 10-yard run for Hamburg and was 13 of 14 passing for 154 yards. OP's Nick O'Hara was 13 of 26 for 205 yards. Each team had over 300 yards on offense and 19 first downs. OP did not punt in the game.
Division I Interdivision
Jamestown 38, Clarence 0: Aaron Leeper had 232 yards and four scores, giving him 14 TDs this season. Ricky Gonzalez had three interceptions, giving him five in the last two games. The Red Raiders held Clarence to 47 yards rushing and allowed them into their territory once.
Frontier 13, Lockport 10 (OT): Senior slotback Rick Mihilik scored on a dive play in overtime as the Falcons won for the first time. Lockport scored first in OT on a 21-yard field goal by Dan DeNardo and hoped its defense could hold.
TB Alex Marchese had 120 yards on 23 rushes to lead a Falcon ground game that had 235 yards.
Amherst 41, Sweet Home 28: Amir Shareef rushed 26 times for 256 yards and two TDs as the Tigers made it two wins in a row while keeping the Panthers winless. Dan Manahan had three rushing TDs as Amherst rolled up 411 yards of offense. Corey Cannizzo had 110 yards and two scores for the Panthers.
Grand Island 26, Nia.-Wheatfield 22: Nick Bergman had 189 yards passing and Jesse Martin rushed for 89 yards as the Vikings moved to 4-0. Joe Edwards led the defense with seven tackles.
Maryvale 19, Starpoint 0: Brandon Serio found the end zone in three different ways for the Flyers. He caught a 12-year TD pass from Matt Miller, scored on a 3-yard run and returned an interception 63 yards.
Lackawanna 28, Fredonia 3: The state's top-ranked Steelers led just 6-0 entering the fourth quarter, when it broke out for three touchdowns. Nelvin Wilder (30 carries, 151 yards), Emilio Pena and Dion James each found the end zone.
Southwestern 44, East Aurora 21: Mike Currie was 11 for 15 for 174 yards and three TDs with no interceptions. Cole Armeli scored three times on the ground and finished with 133 yards.
Eden 28, Akron 0: Bill Roach ran for four touchdowns and 72 yards on 13 carries for the Raiders. Phil Gonser (5-6, 136 yards) connected with Mike Calderon for a 78-yard TD to get Eden started in the first quarter. The Raiders intercepted four passes and limited Akron to 37 total yards.
Cassadaga Valley 21, Allegany-Limestone 0: Sherman Sweeney scored twice on the ground and kicked a 21-yard field goal as CV improved to 4-0 while handing the Gators their first loss. Sweeney finished with 144 yards on 17 carries. Cougars' DT Chris Hopkins had 10 tackles and three assists. Gators' RB Anthony Jefferies, who rushed for 12 TDs in his last two games, was held to 74 yards on 13 carries.
Forestville 22, Frewsburg 13: Ron Duliba threw a pair of TD passes as the Hornets forced six turnovers. Mike Gajewski caught a 21-yard TD pass and added another score on a 3-yard run for the winners. Ryan Lundgren threw a pair of TD passes to Adam Johnson for Frewsburg (0-4).
Ellicottville 42, West Valley 0: Carl Althans ran for four touchdowns and 181 yards on 34 carries as the Eagles improved to 4-0 and 2-0 in the division.
